Wed, 14 Mar 2012 08:42:00 -0700 Q&A with Sonny and Frank http://nemesea.posterous.com/qa-with-sonny-and-frank http://nemesea.posterous.com/qa-with-sonny-and-frank

Here's part 2 of the Q&A with the guys!

Q&A - Frank

Tim Phan-Nguyen asked:
What first got you started on the drums?

Frank answered:

I really can't remember when I fell in love with the drums. My parent always told me that I was 4 years old when I first saw a drum kit and I was totally full of it!
I began with exercises on the snare drum and later on, when I was 12 years old, I finally stepped behind the kit.
When I discovered that there was such a thing as a conservatory I knew I had to go there to study drums.

Q&A - Sonny

Evan Dungen asked:
As a "newborn" hoby bassist I'd like to know if you usually apply one bass for recordings ans concerts?

Can we speak of an evolution like growing bigger in your gear choice? If so, what will be your next step, like fretlss with intergrated piezo?

Sonny answered:

For In Control we auditioned several basses but ended up using just 1 bass for the entire record. Same for the TQR album. I used my MM Bongo for the entire album because it's like the swiss army knife of tone. It's very versatile and it's my main bass for live now as well, although I have an SR5 as a backup.

Not really. I used to be more of a gearhead earlier. Now i'd like it to just work. If I try an amp and I have to use the EQ a lot to balance it out for my personal taste I skip it immediately. I like to turn it on and it should sound good no matter what. A few minor tweaks is ok.
Same goes for basses. I own quite a few but most never see the light of day anymore so to speak. Now I know what I would really want in a bass, but they don't make it. (from factory). But i'd love to own a fretless with piezo, only with Nemesea there is no place for such a bass. And they are a bit to expensive for "hobby" puposes.

Sun, 11 Mar 2012 03:48:00 -0700 Q&A with HJ and Lasse http://nemesea.posterous.com/qa-with-the-guys http://nemesea.posterous.com/qa-with-the-guys

This week I asked all of you on Facebook to send me questions for the guys. They received all the questions and each of them picked one question they like the best. Today you get to read the Q&A with HJ and Lasse.

Q&A - HJ

Gary Joseph Smithson asked:
What artist NOT METAL do you like?

 HJ answered:

I like a lot of bands and styles.
I think this is a good thing :)
It's impossible to name them all but at the moment I'm listening to Snow Patrol, John Mayer and 30SecondstoMars a lot.
Snow Patrol is probably a band people really love or hate.
I'm a lover and this is because of the great song-writing, great sound and I really like Gary's voice.
John Mayer is a totally different cup of tea but I like him because of the same reasons.
Good songs, very nice voice and great guitar playing, whether it's acoustic or electric.
This a very talented guy that has it all.
30SecondstoMars I like because the albums are produced and mixed on a very high level, they have a great sound and I think Jared Leto has an awesome voice.
Again, the songs are great and that's very important for me as a listener.
I like good songs :)
HJ

Q&A - Lasse

Antonio Angonese asked:
Which are your "heroes" for your instrument?

Lasse answered:

1. Kraftwerk.
Not really one heroe but a group of heroes so to speak. They were far ahead of time when it comes to sound and technical stuff. Besides that they know how to put down a killer groove!

2. Christian Lorenz.
He's the keyboardplayer of Rammstein. He is really cool! He plays exactely the right things at the right time.

3. Jean Michel Jarre.
This guy uses laser in his over-the-top shows and is a very amazing keyboardplayer who knows how to create the right atmosphere. The first CD I ever bought was his, so I played a lot of his stuff on my keys.

4. Jan Hammer.
I remember that when I was little I watched Miami Vice. I had to watch it partly because of the amazing music. The two records with music from that serie were bought rapidly. He's also amazing in playing Fusion.

5. Roddy Bottum.
This is the keyboardplayer in Faith No More. He's another of my heroes because of playing the right thing at the right time!

6. Mike Garson.
During my time at the conservatory I attended a lesson given by Mike Garson. He talked about his unique way of making music called Now Music. That was really impressive. He played with a lot of great artists and did a lot of great things with a.o Nine Inch Nails.

Besides Keyboard player, there are also a couple of DJ's a like a lot like Wolfgang Gartner and Deadmau5, just to name a few.

Later this week Q&A with Sonny and Franks!
